Eton College

Eton College School was founded nearly 600 years ago, by King Henry V1 in 1440. His idea of providing a distinctive education to talented boy's aged between 13 -18 on successful completion of entrance examinations, is still upheld today.

Eton has educated more than 18 English Prime Ministers over this period, including our current leader today Mr David Cameron. Previous politicians include the Duke of Wellington, MacMillan and Douglas Hume.

More recently, Prince William and Prince Harry both attended Eton College, and were often seen in the streets of Eton and Windsor as well as the Rowing Rafts adjacent to boathouse19. Their lives at Eton were starkly different from the early days when free education was provided to just 70 boy's, who had to wash outside with cold water. Eton has now increased to approximately 1300 boys of which over 250 receive Scholarships for their unique brilliance.

The boy's uniform still remains similar to the olden days, wearing black tails and waistcoat with pinstripe trousers. The boy's attend school six day's a week and all have to board, staying in many houses with Dames in attendance throughout Eton. Saturday afternoons are normally the main sports day's, which encompasses cricket, football, rugby, golf, badminton, hunting, archery, rowing, tennis and any other sport you care to mention. The schools facilities are truly outstanding.

Guided short tours our a must when you stay at boathouse19, they are available daily outside of term time in the school holidays, and from 2pm or 3.15pm on some Wednesdays, Friday's, and weekends.
